30 Things in my 30s

The saying “Age is just a number” rings so very true with me.  I don’t care how old I am.  I only care how old I feel. And damnit, I still feel like a kid.  So be it.   Kid status remains.

Thought it would be fun to make a list of things I would like to do while I’m still in my 30s.  I’m aiming for 30 things … could be more … could be less.   Let’s get started.

  1. Get in shape.    I’m not talking about “round” being a shape.  I’ve never been a health nut.  I’ve never been addicted to working out.  My “diets” come and go in month long phases and my weight fluctuates 25 pounds up and down, up and down, UP and DOWN.  I want to get into a regular routine of exercising, firm up the flab and stabilize the number on the scale.  Hopefully it will center in on a much lower number than it’s currently reading.
  2. Have Boudoir type photos taken for my Husband.   I’ve been thinking about this idea for quite a while.   Nothing too trashy…more sexy.   Believe me, he’ll LOVE it!
  3. Visit Hawaii. This event is currently scheduled for next Summer.  Hopefully all will go as planned and I’ll be able to check this one off my list pretty soon!
  4. Learn Photoshop.  This one’s been on the list for a while.  Not quite ready to give up the ghost yet.
  5. Compile a cookbook of the recipes I use regularly. I have so many things that I’ve made once or twice that I absolutely loved, and that were fairly simple, but then I’ll misplace the recipe, or not think about it for a while and forget all about it.   My Daughter is a Senior this year (kill me now) so I thought it would be nice to put together a “Family Cookbook” that I can use, and that she can take with her in the years to come when she goes to College or moves out on her own.
  6. Get back in the habit of sending Birthday/Anniversary/Thank You cards to everyone I love on their special day.   I used to be so good about this.  In the past 5 years, I’ve been slacking.  Snail mail makes everyones day a little brighter!
  7. Turn my upstairs storage room into a project room for me!  I was talking to my friend the other day and told her that the boys had an entire garage/shop building for all of their toys and projects and I would really like to have a space of my own for my creativeness to take place.    It will be so nice to be able to keep all of my stuff spread out and out of the way at the same time.
  8. Build a Light Box.  No, I don’t really need one … but YES!  I think it would be so much fun to play around with when taking pictures of this and that!
  9. Make a list of all of the books that I’ve read in my lifetime. Impossible task?  Probably.  But I’d like to start with the current and work my way backwards.  No reason.  I just think it would be neat to have someday.
  10. Plant a Garden in my yard. I want to grow my own herbs and veggies.  Before I can do that though, I’m going to have to build some sort of fenced in area to keep the critters from having a smörgåsbord of yumminess at their disposal.    I would add “Build a Fenced in Area for my Backyard Garden” to my list,  but I think I’ll delegate that project to the boys in my life.  Much safer that way!
  11. Remodel my Breezeway. Currently it’s a naked room, with an old table, a hot tub and a BBQ grill.  I have this wonderful plan in my head of the way I want it to look.  Believe me, it’ll be fabulous!
  12. Revisit New York City! My parents took me when I was in the 6th Grade.  At the time, I was not impressed.  It was loud and busy and scary with the sheer volume of people swarming me on the street.  Now that I’m older, I literally DREAM of visiting NYC on a weekly basis.  It’s like the City is calling my name.  I need to see Times Square,  Ground Zero, Central Park, the Statute of Liberty, the Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center.  I need to experience a play on Broadway.  I need to ride the Staton Island Fairy.   I want to go to Museums and shop and …. I could go on and on for HOURS.  I must go.  Soon.
  13. Revisit Washington D.C. My parents took me here too, on the same trip as NYC.   DC I was impressed with at the time.  I loved the museums and the monuments.  I feel in love with the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetery (I’ve had a life long fascination with Cemeteries.)  I spent days in the museums and was just in awe of the magic feeling in the air.
  14. Get another tattoo. Just one more I think.  Problem is that I can’t decide which one to get and where to place it on my person.    Right now it’s a tie between four different tattoos.   A symbol that means life, love and loyalty;  an anagram that spells my Daughter’s name on one side and my Son’s name on the other; a tribal turtle to match the one my Brother has on his leg; or a Peace sign because … well … it’s just ME!  Decisions Decisions.
  15. Take an all girls trip. I don’t care where we go or what we do, but I’ve never been out of town with just my friends, or my sister, or my Momma.   We’re always so busy taking family vacations (which is great!) that I don’t have time left over for the girls.  This must change.
  16. Visit a Winery. There are a million wineries in my area of the Country and I’ve been to one … one time.  This too must change.
  17. Set up a Shop on Etsy. I love being creative.  I just need to center in on a plan of what to make, how to make it, and get it done!  I think it will be so much fun.
  18. Get a massage.  Never had a professional massage.  Just my good ole Hubby rubbing my shoulders (which he’s very good at by the way.)  But I have a gift certificate to get one … so this is a very soon one as well.
  19. Get regular Pedicures and stop abusing my feet! I’m such a barefoot kinda girl and hate to spend the money to get my toes done.  I need to repeat to myself that I AM WORTH IT!  Make an appointment and get it done.
  20. Renew my wedding vows with the Love of my Life. We wanted to do this in 2009 for our 10th Anniversary, but it didn’t work out, so we’re aiming for 2014, which will be our 15th Anniversary.   We went to Cancun for our honeymoon, so I have us pictured there, on the beach, with me wearing the dress I wore the day I became his wife, both of our children on either side of us,  as many other family and friends that can make it, sunset, candles, beautiful flowers and smiles that will last for days.  I can’t wait!
  21. Watch Gone with the Wind. I’ve seen it, when I was little, but I have no recollection of it at all.
  22. Learn to sew. I grew up watching my Momma sit at her sewing machine and make all kinds of things.   Honestly, I’d be content just learning to make curtains.
  23. To be Continued ….
